Education Ministry in Islamic SHS over unfortunate police shooting
The Ministry of Education led by the Deputy Minister, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour has visited Islamic SHS over the unfortunate police shooting which left many students unconscious and wounded.
Details leading to the sad incident reported by Ghana Education News on Jue 13th had it that, the students took to the street in front of the school to register their displeasure over the rampant motor accident that occurs on that stretch of road. They blocked sections of the road to demonstrate, and the police were called in to restore others, however, they deployed excessive force leading to the casualties.
Officers of the police service dispatched to the student demonstration scene allegedly opened fire and tear gas on the students. Per the records available to the Education Ministry, 38 students were rushed to health facilities for treatment, however, 22 of them have been treated and discharged. The rest of the 16 students are still on admission.
“The students pelted the Police with stones and the police used pepper spray and fired warning shots in an attempt to disperse them,” the management of the Ghana Police Service stated in a press statement issued on Monday.

Rev. John Ntim Fordjour assured the school community and stakeholders whiles granting an interview to Peace 104.5 FM on the matter that the Education Ministry is guaranteeing the safety of teachers and students of the Islamic SHS as teaching and learning are expected to resume
Efforts from the Ministry, the Kumasi Metropolitan Mayor, and the management of the Islamic SHS are collaborating to ensure the expected calm school environment is restored.

The Deputy Minister disclosed that teaching and learning will resume today, 14th June, since calm has returned to the school and teachers are on hand to perform their duties.
The Ghana Police has commenced investigations into the unfortunate incident and more details will be made public after the Ghana Police has completed the investigations it initiated on Monday 13th June 2022, the minister said.
The Islamic SHS unfortunate police shooting causes a lot of worry among the populace as parents whose wards were attending the school become worried and began to rush to the school across the country to find out if their wards were safe. The general public is looking forward to a good investigation and post-investigation decisions by the police to ensure those found culpable are dealt with.
