According to Daisha Smalls, the suspect ran up and told her to get out of her car. Screaming ” my baby’s in the back seat”, Daisha resisted.
“Fearing for the mother’s safety, one of our officers discharged his duty weapon, fatally striking the suspect, sadly, baby Legend was also struck. Officers at the scene immediately rendered first aid to Legend”. Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo said in a statement.
Speaking amidst tears during a March 16, conference with her lawyers to address the issue, Daisha Smalls said” my son has been fighting everyday for his life”.
According to reports, doctors had to remove part of Legend’s skull because of brain swelling, and even after that, bullet fragments still remain in baby Legend’s head.
Daisha Smalls Attorney, Ben Crump said Legend was on a ventilator for more than 10 days and suffered countless seizures.
Two weeks on, baby Legend Smalls still remains in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and doctors have said, they’re hoping for the best.
