Pastor-styled thief using charms and tricks to steal phones or laptops on UG-Legon, UPSA, and Wisconsin campuses was arrested by a mob.
A popular and supposed pastor who is known for preaching at the University of Ghana-Legon, UPSA, and Wisconsin campuses has been arrested by a mob for using charms and tricks to steal phones or laptops from unsuspecting students and the general public.
The allegations levelled against him range from people losing their mobile devices and laptops after having an encounter with him. The rage with which the crowd mobbed him showed the anger in the students who aided in his arrest.
According to a blog post on Twitter sighted by Ghanaeducation.org, the pastor uses the trick of asking directions from pedestrians, then applies what students suspect to be a charm. This trick he uses leads to moments of confusion for his victims, and before they realize it, their phone or laptop is gone.
In a viral video moments after his arrest, the said pastor, whose name and identity are yet to be disclosed, was stripped of his clothing, leaving him in his boxer shorts.
The pastor was humbled by the arrest, and he kneeled down and begged for forgiveness. One of the ladies at the scene reminded him of his crimes against her colleague, who was also present at the scene.
While others wanted to beat him up, civilised Ghanaians present directed that he should not be beaten; instead, he should be handed over to the Ghana Police for investigations so that he would face the full arm of the law. According to our sources, a suspected thief was lynched at the same scene recently; hence, it was prudent to take him to the nearest police station.
A lady was also arrested at the crime scene, claiming that she was a partner of the suspect and that they worked together.
Students on the University of Ghana-Legon, UPSA, and Wisconsin campuses and their security offices must beef up security on campus to help protect students from such attacks.
