NAGRAT demands 15-20% salary increment for public school teachers

The National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) has called on the government for a 15-20% salary increment for public teachers.

The call for the 15-20% salary increment for public teachers comes as Ghana marks workers’ day.

The Union called on the government to consider increasing the salary of workers, including public teachers due to the current hardship workers are going through in the country.

This was disclosed by the leadership of NAGRAT in an interview on the Accra-based Citi FM monitored by this portal.

The 15-20% salary increment for public teachers demand

Angel Carbonu, the President of NAGRAT the increment requested if implemented, will help the teachers in the midst of covid.

“When it comes to food items, our wives and our sisters and our mothers will tell you that prices of these commodities have all shot up in the market.,” the NAGRAT’s Angel Carbonu told Citi 97. 3 FM.

In an earlier communique by the Technical Adviser at the Ministry of Finance, public sector workers will not enjoy any increment in salaries until 2024. This decision was reached because the Ministry of Finance said: “the country is broke.”

According to Dr. Samuel Nii Noi Ashong, the country’s financial status for the next few years is not good enough and the government cannot increase the income of government workers, including public teachers.
