Ghana Education News| Transition to English (T2E) Plus Program to Improve Reading for Ghanaian Children outdoored.
The Ministry of Education and Ghana Education Service in partnership with USAID Ghana today launched the Transition To English (T2E) Plus Program through the USAID Partnership for Education: Learning Activity.
The Transition to English (T2E) Plus Program was lauched om Tuedays September 7th, 2021 at the Alisa Hotel. It was aimed at recognizing the collaborative efforts of the Government of Ghana and the U.S Government to support over 5,000 schools in all 16 regions.
The Program will air supplemental radio reading lessons nationwide; conduct training, coaching, and mentoring for primary 1 through primary 3 teachers and education personnel; and provide teaching and learning materials for pupils, caregivers, and teachers.
Through this program, trained teachers will use NaCCA-validated materials in English and the official Ghanaian Languages of Instruction (GLOI) to teach pupils to read.
In addition to in-classroom support, pre-recorded, interactive radio reading lessons will be aired in classrooms and on targeted Regional radio stations to complement lessons to improve the reading of Ghanaian children.
The launch also saw the inauguration of a Steering Committee (SC) by the Hon. Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum. The SC will be chaired by the Hon. Deputy Minister of Education, Rev. Ntim Fordjour to provide guidance in the implementation of the T2E Plus program; make recommendations for improvement, and provide regular feedback to the Minister for Education.
The ability of pre-tertiary education learners to read plays a key role in their total development and learning efficiency since all lessons are taught in English. The failure of the child to develop his or her reading, writing, and reading skills of the English language can retard and slow down the learner’s academic progress and success.
The learner’s ability to read and write or communicate in English helps to support the learner’s cognitive development, improved language skills, prepare the learner for academic success, and increased concentration and discipline. It further helps to improved imagination and creativity and the learner cultivates a lifelong love of reading.
These are some of the benefits the Transition to English (T2E) Plus Program would achieve.
Some of the officials who graced the occasion were the Hon. Minister of Education – Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Hon. Deputy Minister of Education – Rev. Ntim Fordjour, MoE Chief Director – Mr. Benjamin Gyasi, GES Director General – Prof. Kwasi Opoku Amankwa, USAID Acting Mission Director – Ms. Janean Davis, USAID Regional Agreement Officer – Ms. Amy Larsen, USAID Education Director – Ms. Rasheena Reid, Learning Chief of Party – Dr. Mama Laryea, Director, Gen.
