Breaking: Teacher dead, Kumasi Islamic SHS students clash with police

Students of Kumasi Islamic SHS in Kumasi, Ashanti region have clashed with the Ghana police leaving scores of students and officer injured.

According to facts available to Ghana Education News, the students staged a demonstration as a result of the death of a female teacher of the school after she was knocked by a car on Friday.

While the students were demonstrating, reports indicate officers of the Ghana Police visited the scene and police allegedly fired tear gas into the protesting students and demonstrators to disperse them. This led to about 30 students collapsing in the process and being rushed to the hospital, according to sources.
During the Kumasi Islamic SHS students’ demonstration, they are said to have blocked the road used by commuters which passing in front of the school, causing vehicular traffic in the process.
Dues to the presence of the school at the that busy end of the road, school authorities and the community have called for speed ramps to be built at the school’s section of the road, but no one acted after several calls.
The death of the teacher from the car accident gingered the students to demonstrate to press home their displeasure and call for the provision of the speed ramps to prevent more avoidable deaths and accidents.
Many of the students who were affected by the tear gas used by the police have been rushed to the hospital. The identify of the female teacher who lost her life as a result of the accident is yet to be disclosed.
