President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo emphasized the government’s commitment to safeguarding Ghana’s Northern frontiers against potential terrorist threats. This comes after President Akufo Addo received 105 military vehicles from European Union (EU) on Saturday.
During the reception of 105 military vehicles valued at €20 million from the European Union (EU) in Accra, he highlighted the evident attempts by terrorist and extremist groups to extend their influence from the Sahel to coastal West Africa, posing significant security risks for Ghanaians.
He stressed the need for an upgraded counter-terrorism strategy due to these emerging threats. Akufo-Addo underscored that individual nations alone cannot effectively combat terrorism and expressed gratitude to the European Union for their support.

Joseph Borrell Fontelles, the High Representative and Vice President of the EU, reiterated the Union’s concerns about the escalating terrorism in the Sahel and West Africa. This concern led to the decision to assist both Ghana and the wider region in addressing this critical situation.
National Security Minister Albert Kan Dapaah, present at the ceremony, lauded the European Union for their contribution of the vehicles.
Ghana, along with Gulf of Guinea neighbours Togo, Benin and Ivory Coast, are increasingly at risk from violence in the Sahel especially after coups in Burkina Faso and Niger where the junta has demanded the withdrawal of French troops there.
After meeting with President Nana Akufo-Addo in Accra, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said 105 armoured vehicles delivered to Ghana were part of aid that would later include aerial surveillance equipment and electronic warfare systems
