KNUST SHS Assist. Headmaster Removed From Office Over Viral Video with Female Student And GES’ Code of Conduct

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has swiftly removed Mr. Charles Akwasi Aidoo, the Assistant Headmaster for Academics at KNUST Senior High School, from his position following the circulation of a viral video allegedly showing him in a compromising situation with a female student.
In an immediate press release dated Monday, September 29, 2025, the GES confirmed that its management’s attention had been drawn to the disturbing video and stated it views the matter with the
“utmost seriousness.” The action, according to the Service, is in line with its commitment to “safeguarding the integrity of the teaching profession and ensuring the safety and welfare of students under our care.”
Signed by the Head of Public Relations, Daniel Fenyi, the statement announced that Mr. Aidoo has been
“removed from office, and prohibited from going to the school while thorough investigations are being carried out.” The GES has assured the public that a full inquiry will proceed and “appropriate disciplinary action will be taken in accordance with the code of conduct of the Ghana Education Service.”
The Investigation and the GES Code of Conduct
The investigation into Mr. Aidoo’s conduct will be guided by the Code of Conduct for Staff of the Ghana Education Service, which outlines the professional and ethical standards expected of all educators. Given the nature of the allegations, the investigation will likely focus on several key areas of misconduct outlined in the code.
Relevant sections the GES is likely to invoke include:
- Rules Governing the Relationship with Students: The code explicitly forbids any form of inappropriate relationship between an educator and a student. An alleged act of this nature is a severe breach of trust and professional boundaries. It directly contravenes rules designed to protect minors from exploitation and abuse by persons in authority.
- Professional Misconduct: Any behaviour that brings the teaching profession into disrepute is considered serious misconduct. A viral video of an educator in a compromised position with a student severely damages the public’s trust in teachers and the education system as a whole. The code stipulates that staff must, at all times, conduct themselves in a manner that upholds the dignity and honour of the profession.
- Child Protection and Welfare: The GES’s primary mandate is to ensure a safe learning environment. The statement from the GES reinforces this, saying, “We strongly condemn any acts that compromise the safety, dignity, and wellbeing of students.” Mr. Aidoo’s alleged actions are a direct violation of this core principle.

Projected Outcome
Given the gravity of the offense and the GES’s firm public stance, the outcome of the investigation is likely to be severe. While Mr. Aidoo has been “removed from office” as an interim measure, a finding of guilt after the investigation will almost certainly lead to a termination of his appointment (dismissal) from the Ghana Education Service.
Such an offense is considered a fundamental breach of the duty of care and the ethical standards required to be an educator. Dismissal would serve as the ultimate sanction to safeguard students and send an unequivocal message that such behaviour will not be tolerated within the country’s schools.
