Legon-PRESEC student allegedly kidnapped, abductors demand GH¢340,000

In a distressing development that has sent shockwaves through the community, a 17-year-old student from the prestigious Presbyterian Boys Senior High School (PRESEC), Legon, has been reportedly kidnapped.

The student was making his way back to Obuasi for a vacation when he was abducted on March 28, 2024.

The chilling saga unfolds as disturbing images sent to the boy’s family by unknown captors reveal the grave danger he faces.

Despite the immediate action taken by the distraught parents in reporting the incident to the police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters and informing PRESEC officials, the progress in the case has been frustratingly sluggish.

This alarming incident has drawn attention not only because of the harrowing experience the student is undergoing but also due to the seemingly detached stance taken by the school authorities.

They have indicated that their ability to act is limited, pointing out that the kidnapping occurred off-campus.

This explanation, however, does little to assuage the fears and concerns of the student’s family and the larger school community.

The captors, exploiting the vulnerability of the situation, initially demanded an astronomical ransom of GH¢340,000.

The narrative took a darker turn as threats were made about dismembering the student and selling his body parts if their demands were not met.

Through negotiations, the ransom amount was reduced to GH¢20,000, which the family managed to send to the kidnappers via Mobile Money in a desperate bid to secure the boy’s release.

Yet, the ordeal did not end there; the kidnappers have since increased their demand to an additional GH¢300,000.

As the student remains in captivity for over six days, his family’s pleas for government intervention and police assistance grow more urgent.

The community is rallying support, calling for increased efforts to ensure the safe return of the young student.

This harrowing episode not only highlights the terrifying reality of kidnapping but also raises questions about the safety and security measures for students both on and off school premises.
