Messi finally wins the FIFA World Cup with Argentina after outclassing and beating the defending champions France in a historic finals by two first have goals. They were stretched to their limits by the French side but that was not enough to deny them a historic third time win of the FIFA World Cup.
On the night, Argentina took the lead curtesy a penalty well converted by the captain of the site Lionel Messi in the 23rd minutes of the first half. The defending champions did not look like they were in for victory as Argentina determined the pace of the game and outplayed the French in the first half.
Argentina forced France to chase the rest of the first half after the first goal which took Lionel Messi’s tally at the ongoing FIFA World Cup to 6 goals. From then , Messi looked like his eyes were glued on the trophy, the golden boot and possibly the best player at the World Cup.
In the 36th minute of the first half, carefully orchestrated fluid passes by the Argentines which was started by Messi, set up Angel Di Maria who placed a cheeky one above the already fallen goal keeper of the French team to make it 2-0 at half time.
Messi has played the most matches in World Cup history and has achieved the most goal contributions in World Cup history at the ongoing 2022 World cup at the end of the first half.
France turned on the heat in the 80th and 81st minute through a penalty an an open play goal from Mbappe to level up in the 83rd minute (2-2)
In total Messi has scored 13 goals in 26 matches at the World Cup. His previous record at a tournament was four goals, which he accomplished during Argentina’s run to the final of the 2014 tournament in Brazil.
Argentina have increased their FIFA World Cup wins to three having won the 2022 edition in Qatar on a 4-2 penalty after a 3-3 drawn game with France.
