Ashanti Region is undoubtedly the region with the most senior high schools in Ghana. Most of these senior high schools are also ranked amongst the best in Ghana.

Aside Senior High schools, the region can also boast of several universities which are ranked amongst best universities in Ghana as well.

Below are the oldest senior high schools in the Ashanti Region.

Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School

OKESS is the first secondary school in the Asante Region, having been established in 1937. The school was was named after the 14th King of Asante, Otumfuo Prempeh II whose maiden name is Osei Kyeretwie.

In 1970, OKESS relocated from Dekyemso to its present Tafo site, through the efforts of the Asantehene and Tafohene. In between 1970 and 2004 , the school operated two campuses viz Tafo and Dichemso. Finally in 2004 the entire school was moved to Tafo.

Osei Tutu SHS

Osei Tutu Senior High School is an all-boys senior high school located in Akropong in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. It is ranked among the best senior high schools in the Ashanti Region. The school was founded in 1940.

Prempeh College

Prempeh College is a public secondary school for boys located in Kumasi, the capital city of the Ashanti Region, Ghana. The school was founded in 1949 by the Asanteman traditional authority, the British Colonial Government, the Methodist Church Ghana and the Presbyterian Church of Ghana.

Prempeh College was founded through a collaboration between the Kumasi Traditional Council, the Presbyterian and Methodist churches in the then Gold Coast and the British Colonial Government

T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School is a coeducational second-cycle public educational institution in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. It was founded on 30th January, 1950

Opoku Ware SHS

Opoku Ware School, often referred to as OWASS, is an all-boys high school in Santasi, a suburb of Kumasi, which is the capital of the Ashanti region of Ghana. It was established in 1952, as one of the five Catholic schools in Ghana that year. The school was named after Asante King Opoku Ware I.

St. Louis SHS

St. Louis Senior High School is an all-female school located at Oduom, a suburb of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.

St. Louis Senior High School was opened in 1952, with an initial group of 12 girls.

Bekwai SDA SHS

Bekwai S.D.A. Senior High is located between Bekwai and Asanso on the Anwiankwanta-Cape Coast road. The institution was established by the Seventh- Day Adventist Church in 1953

Konongo-Odumase SHS

Konongo Odumase Senior High School is a coeducational second-cycle institution at Konongo-Odumase in the Asante Akim Central District of the Ashanti Region of Ghana. The school was established on 23rd February, 1953 (70 years ago)

Kumasi Girls’ SHS.

Kumasi Girls is located at Abrepo, a suburb of Kumasi in the Ashanti region of Ghana. The school is adjacent to the County hospital. It was also founded in 1953. Programmes offered include General Arts, General Science, Business, Home Economics and Visual Arts
