WAEC Reveals Date For 2023 WASSCE Theory Papers

The 2023 WASSCE has officially begun. Candidates who have practical work attached to their course have already begun. The Theory aspect of the 2023 WASSCE will begin on Monday, 21st August, 2023. This is few days after the 2023 BECE.

For this reason, there will be a one week break in the WASSCE during that period. There will only be one practical work on Monday, 7th August, 2023(Food and Nutrition Paper 3). Aside this paper, WASSCE candidates will resume their exams on Monday, 14th August, 2023

A total of 447,204 candidates, made up of 211,834 males and 235,370 females drawn from 975 schools have entered for the examination. This figure indicates an increase of 5.8% compared to the 2022 entry figure of 422,883. The examination is taking place at 834 centres across the country. A total of sixty (60) subjects, comprising four (4) core and fifty-six (56) electives were made available to prospective candidates to choose from.

This year’s BECE will be written early as compared to other years. Also, the 2023 academic calendar for both basic schools and SHS has been designed in such a way that this year’s academic year will end on 15th September, 2023.

August and September used to be the original date of vacation for basic schools and SHS before the outbreak of Covid-19 in 2020. Following the outbreak of this pandemic, the academic calendar for all schools, including tertiary institutions changed. The Ghana Education Service is doing everything possible to restore the old academic calendar
