“Your salary as a teacher cannot support my vision. I’m not interested.” This is disrespectful and hurts no matter who you are. This painful act which got many teachers angry was passed in December 2020.

The salary of teachers is a sensitive issue but for a man to use that as a basis for rejecting the proposal of a teacher who is a lady is weird.

An Akan axiom says it is a dog that looks for a bone and not the other way around. In Ghanaian culture and many others, this is true. However, love can sometimes disappoint us all but when you are rejected with disrespect, it leaves you with many questions. This was the case of a female teacher who was told by a man she fell in love with.

lady decided to inform a guy she had fallen in love with about her feelings toward him. According to the story which was first published by ghbase.com, the female teacher who decided to shoot her shot was left disappointed. The responses from the man of her dream though genuine were communicated with disrespect.

According to this lady, the guy is a single friend who attained age 30 recently. She is also 28 and single. She was interested in this gentleman because he was everything she wanted in a husband.

She wanted a man to settle down with and decided to take the initiative.

Well, it got backfired. The man of her dreams used her teacher’s salary as a yardstick to reject her instead of looking at the true genuine love expressed.

He told the female teacher in the face that her salary as a teacher was woefully inadequate to support and accommodate his vision. The lady was left disappointed and shared her story by writing:

“I am a 28-year-old woman, single and not yet married. I decided to shoot my shot, to one of my friends who just turned 30 since he’s single, focused, and organized.

He answered me and said, ”You’re a school teacher, your salary doesn’t accommodate my vision board, I will pass.”

In our part of the world, men are often expected to propose to ladies and not the reverse. But times have changed. However, a relationship is the greatest emotional need of a woman. Whatever a man can do a woman can do better. The disrespect by the man has attracted the anger of social media users.

The question is, is the teacher’s salary not good enough to help support his or her wife? And is it not men who must lead the vision and then receive the backing of their wives? We leave it to you to judge, but “the salary of teachers” excuse does not sit well with social media commentators.
