Ghanaian teachers are most useless people – I’m glad I’m not a teacher’- Captain Smart (Flashback)

Ghanaian teachers are most useless

The comment, “The most useless people in Ghana are teachers; I’m glad I’m not a teacher,” by Captain Smart, the radio and TV personality, born Blessed Godsbrain Smart, has gone viral since his pronouncement.

His labelling of Ghanaian teachers as the most useless people in Ghana has further divided the chalk fraternity.

He made the pronouncements on his morning show on Onua FM. He stated emphatically that teachers are not rewarded for their hard work.

They receive peanuts for every sacrifice they make for the education of learners, and to worsen the case, politicians take undue advantage of them.

According to him, the current and previous governments failed to improve the lives of teachers; financial rewards due to them were never given; rather, they have been exploited by politicians when elections are due.

Reasons for the “The most useless people in Ghana are teachers” comment

“The most useless people in Ghana are teachers. I thank God I am not a teacher. When you pressurise a hungry man, he will come after you.”

“What is happening is really bad. 21st century, and the teacher who crosses a river to go out to teach. You increase teachers salaries by 4%, while you increase yours by 79%. Afterward, you tell the teachers they can’t be millionaires.

“All teachers must stop teaching and find another job. You are in this country and telling teachers they are stupid.

Teachers salaries were just increased by  GHC20.I love you, but you have  failed, he said on his morning show.

In a related development, some teachers who feel the GNAT is not performing have questioned why they must continue to pay dues. They have called on GNAT to halt the collection of dues and instruct the Controller and Accountant General not to deduct dues from their pay. The heated call has been captured in our earlier story, “Halt the GNAT dues collection now! – GNAT told commentators on the story had this to say:

“I think the move to suspend the collection of GNAT is in place. I am strongly in support of them if they are able to fight for the right cause. Why not? We shall restore the payment of the dues so they can also benefit from their labour.”

In fact, you have hit on the head of the nail. I really like the spirit; we are not in normal times; therefore, we cannot be paying our normal dues. This leadership must collapse; they’re too egocentric. It is unthinkable to see leadership on the negotiation table going in for 4 percent. This is totally unacceptable.

“Well-spoken, my brother, that is the actual truth to our leaders, who do not have time for the teachers who pay them and the family. I support the move.”

Teachers in Ghana have endorsed the call for the GNAT to halt the collection of dues; however, will the leadership of the union succumb to the pressure?

  1. What makes us useless? Not anyone can bisect his mouth at any degrees to say anything about us(Teachers), infact something should be done concerning this nonsense. We’re proud of our job.
