2022 BECE begins today; over 500,000 candidates to sit for the exams

The 2022 BECE begins today and over 500,000 candidates are expected to sit for the exams across Ghana. This is the 32nd edition of the national examination for Junior High School leavers which commenced in 1990.
Over 500,000 candidates will sit for this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE) which begins today, October 17, 2022 with Social Studies and ICT and is expected to end on Friday 21st October 2022 with the French Language paper.
In all candidates will be administered the examination in 2,033 centres across the country.
The Ghana Education Service ahead of the examination is entreating all students and other key stakeholders at the various examination centres to desist from any form of examination malpractices.
Meanwhile, the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) is urging supervisors and invigilators of this year’s examination to comply with all the rules of invigilation.

The General Secretary of the Association, Thomas Musah, said, “we all know the implication of the rules of engagement. Nobody will go and supervise and say he or she doesn’t know the rules of engagement.”

“So to the extent that you have been invited to assist in the conduct of the exam requires each one who is having that opportunity to live up to expectations,” Mr. Musah said.
Candidates have been cautioned to avoid the temptation of breaking the examination rules and invigilators have been empowered to search every candidate and keep an eagle’s eye on the conduct of candidates and other officials to help preserve the integrity of the exam.
Candidates are also expected to select six SHSs they want to be considered for during the school placement. The selection is expected to commence on 31st October and end on 18th November 2022. Ahead of the selection, the Ministry of Education will roll out sensitization programmes on TV and Radio for at least a week thus from 24th to 29 October 2022
