24-Hour Economy Proposal: Buaben Asamoa Criticizes NDC, “Slogans Won’t Translate into Feasible Policies
Former Member of the NPP, Yaw Buaben Asamoa, has taken a critical stance on the NDC’s recent announcement of a 24-hour economy proposal. Buaben Asamoa emphasized that catchy slogans alone are insufficient and called for the NDC to present a detailed policy document to substantiate their proposal.
The NDC’s flagbearer, John Mahama, recently made a 24-hour economy proposal, intending to implement measures to ensure economic activities run around the clock. While Buaben Asamoa acknowledged the concept, he stressed the importance of moving beyond slogans to concrete policies for sustainable economic growth.
In an interview on TV3, Buaben Asamoa stated, “You can sloganize to get into power, but the people will realize it is not feasible.” He urged the NDC to articulate a well-thought-out policy that addresses the critical factors needed for Ghana’s economic development.

Buaben Asamoa identified access to capital as a key driver for economic growth and urged the NDC to provide a carefully drafted policy outlining the transition of capital to areas that can stimulate growth. He contrasted this with the approach of independent presidential candidate Alan Kyerematen, emphasizing Kyerematen’s focus on economic development and the need for a strategic capital allocation policy.
Recently, Buaben Asamoa, along with Hopeson Adorye, Nana Ohene Ntow, and Boniface Abubakar Saddique, were ousted from the NPP for openly supporting Alan Kyerematen, who leads the Movement for Change group.
The proposal, as explained, involves implementing measures to ensure businesses across various sectors operate both day and night. The goal is to create a vibrant economy that generates more employment opportunities. Asamoa’s critique underscores the necessity for political proposals to move beyond rhetoric and demonstrate practicality through well-defined policies.
