9 Ways Parents Can Help Their Children Pass The 2026 BECE

Parent Help Children Pass Exam

The 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination will start on May 4th and end on May 11th, and for many students, they need their parents to help them pass the BECE.

Candidates, teachers, and schools that have not thought of the key roles parents need to play beyond paying fees and other related duties need to carefully read this. For parents, this article will be an eye-opener to many of the neglected responsibilities you need to carry out to support your candidate.

The very useful tips were first shared on August 5th, 2023, and they are even more relevant today as the 2026 BECE draws nearer.

What Are The 9 Ways Parents Can Help Their Children Pass The 2026 BECE?

Every child will have different approaches to learning that work for them; however, there are things that parents can do to help children get the most out of their revision.

  1. Encourage your child to make a revision timetable and help him or her stick to it. Revisions help students to fill in all the knowledge gaps. They need parents to guide them apart from all the work teachers do. Parents need to remind their wards of their revisions for the day and be interested in the material or topic being revised.
  2. Make sure your child has a quiet space to work, with no distractions. Distraction can pose serious hindrances to effective revision and earning at home. Keep the TV off and the radio so low.
  3. Find a style of revision that works for your child. Find out from the candidate the learning style they used that helped them do well and encourage them to use it more.
  4. Encourage a healthy routine of breaks, exercise, and balanced meals.
  5. Lessen distractions and time wasters. Everyone has their own optimal way of studying. For some, noise is a distraction. For others, it’s a necessity. Discuss with your student what would work best for them, and develop an ideal study scenario.
  6. Setting aside a part of the house where they can study in peace
  7. Establishing a no-phone studying time (two to three hours) so they can focus better
  8. Limiting television and/or canceling Netflix or Amazon Prime accounts until after exams.
  9. Take the mobile phone away from the candidate; all he or she needs to learn and pass are in their notes and textbooks.
  10. Have them teach it. “To teach is to learn twice.” This saying is backed up by research that has found that peer teaching, specifically, and teaching others, generally, improves academic achievement. Ask your student to pretend s/he is the teacher teaching you what they have just learned. It will allow them to review more effectively
