MoE presents relief items to Labone SHS students affected by fire outbreak

The Ministry of Education in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) has provided urgent relief items to students of Labone Senior High School affected by a recent fire outbreak.

The Deputy Minister for Education, Hon Clement Apaak was joined by the Director-General of NADMO, Dr. Joseph Kuyon, and Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Linda Ocloo, to present the items on behalf of the government.

The intervention follows an inspection visit by the Minister of Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, to assess the extent of the fire damage in Labone Senior High School.

The donated relief items include mattresses, roofing sheets, roofing nails, mosquito nets, blankets, plastic buckets and plastic plates to support the affected students in recovering from the incident.

In a social media post sighted by GhanaEducation.org, the Ministry of Education (MoE) said the donation aims to provide immediate comfort and ensure minimal disruption to academic activities.

Speaking at the presentation, the Deputy Minister in Charge of Education, Hon Clement Apaak assured the school community of the government’s commitment to swiftly restoring the damaged facilities.

He emphasized that efforts were underway to reconstruct affected structures and strengthen fire safety measures in schools across the country as a result of the Labone SHS fire outbreak.

Dr Joseph Kuyon, the Director-General of the National Disaster Management Organization his part, highlighted NADMO’s role in disaster response and pledged continuous support.

On her part, the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Linda Ocloo also expressed her concern for the student’s well-being and reiterated the regional administration’s commitment to assisting the school in every possible way.

The management of Labone Senior High School, together with the affected students, expressed gratitude to the government and stakeholders for their timely intervention.

Authorities have assured the public that investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing, and additional measures will be implemented to prevent future occurrences.
