The Teacher Promotion Examination for 2025 starts today and will be the final key activity on the Education Calendar for the Ghana Education Service (GES). According to the GES, only shortlisted applicants who met the strict eligibility criteria will write the exam. This means the GES disqualified some applicants.
The examination will see two different classes of teachers undergoing the exam that aims at determining who finally gets promoted out of the many who have reached their promotion assessment period in their careers.
Per an earlier communique by the GES, the exam for all Assistant Director II (AD II) and Principal Superintendent (PS) candidates will be held on Monday, 29th December 2025, while that of Assistant Director I (AD I) and Deputy Director (DD) takes place on Tuesday, 30th December 2025.
Staff of the service who applied for the examination have been informed by the service in the Eligibility to Report to Examination Centres update that
Only candidates with issued index numbers are permitted to report to centers. This means those who applied to take part in the exam but have not received an official index number for the exam would not be entertained at the examination centers for the examination. Such educators would have to consider the next promotion exam window in 2026 instead.
Teachers who applied to sit for the December 2025 promotion exam but did not receive an official SMS and have no index number must not report to any centre. This will ensure that there are no unnecessary delays to the start of the examination per the official time allocated for the conduct of the exam.
Teachers are to note that the December 2025 Teacher Promotion Examinations will be strictly conducted by index number. Thus, no index number, no promotion exam.
