It looks as though there will be No End of 2nd Term Exam for public basic schools as GES remains silent. Per the latest directive from the Ghana Education Service (GES), basic schools (KG to JHS) are to vacate on 11th August 2022 as announced in March irrespective of the 10-day COLA strike. However, it remains silent on whether schools are to conduct an end-of-term examination for learners. This, No end of term exam policy by the GES for basic school learners in public schools is worrying given that, learners and teachers do not have the chance to officially conduct examinations to assess their learners.
The latest update of the GES only had this to say.
“The Basic schools calendar released in March of this year remains the same.:
Please be reminded that vacation for the second term is 11th August 2022.”
Thank you.
The third term of the 2022 academic year will therefore commence on September 13th, 2022.
No End of 2nd Term Exam for public basic schools as GES remains silent
The information available to Ghana Education News indicates there have been some directives from some Metropolitan, Municipal, and Districts to heads of schools that there will be no “End of Term Examination”.

For this reason, teachers are required to use class exercises, class tests, project work, homework, and role-play assessments conducted during the term to complete learners’ end-of-term reports for the term.
“Teachers are expected to use other means of assessment like class tests, homework, group work, project work, role play, etc to assess their pupils and get ready for vacation…”
This directive was given for the first term and since the GES has not come out with a new directive contrary to the above, it presupposes that our learners in public schools will end the term without a typical end-of-term examination.
Heads of school have been instructed not to take any unapproved fees from parents to conduct an end-of-term examination for basic school children and to instead find their own means of conducting the exams for the pupils. This implies writing any such examinations on the chalk or whiteboard for students.

Whether all public basic schools will follow this directive, one cannot tell.
