It appears that for the past six decades, Ghana and Nigeria have been exhibiting a common or similar political and economic phenomenon. Whenever something historic happens in one of these two West African countries, in the following year or two, a similar occurrence is witnessed in the other country.
The following examples illustrate the above phenomenon:
1. Ghana gained her independence in 1957, then in three years time, Nigeria also became independent in in 1960.
2. Ghana became a Republic in 1960, then in 1963, Nigeria followed suit.
3. Nigeria suffered a first coup d’etat in January 15, 1966, then later on February 24, same year, Ghana suffered the same fate.
4. Ghana won African Cup of Nations in 1978, then in 1980, Nigeria also won.
5. After several years of military interventions, Ghana’s 4th republic on January 7th, 1993, Nigeria’s 4th republic May 29th, 1999.
6. In 2010, a sitting president of Nigeria, Yara Dua dies in office, then in two years time 2012, a sitting president of Ghana prof Mills also dies in office.

7. In 2010, a vice president of Nigeria Goodluck Jonathan is sworn in as president to succeed an ailing sitting president, then two years time, vice president of Ghana John Mahama is sworn in as president to succeed a departed president.
The above occurrences clearly indicate some correlation between Ghana and Nigeria. Political watchers have begun asking whether or not the Assin Central Member of Parliament(MP), Hon. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong is sharing similar characteristics with a man called Peter Obi of Nigeria, a former governor of Anambra state and now a presidential candidate of the Labour Party in Nigeria.
Hon. Kennedy Agyapong has declared to run for the presidency of Ghana should his party the New Patriotic Party(NPP) give him the endorsement. What is interesting is that, while Kennedy Agyapong is a politician and a wealthy business man, Peter Obi also happens to be a politician and a rich business man. The two seem to portray a straightforwardness in their way of doing things without fear or favour.
When one focuses on Kennedy Agyapong’s engagement keenly, you realise the kind of responses and reactions his utterances and political philosophy elicit from the Ghanaian masses. Ghana has not experienced this sort of societal awakening in a long time. Is he the chosen Biblical Joshua to take the baton from Moses(President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo) and lead us into a Canaan, the proverbial promised land?
Looking at the engagement of Ken with people brings to mind what is happening in nearby Nigeria with Peter Obi’s candidature for the presidency of Nigeria. The comparison is similar and extraordinary in historical perspectives. They seem cut out for the exigencies of our time. A monumental seismic shift will ensue if both personalities get elected to the presidencies in their respective countries.
I believe God is in control and will deliver a leader fit to tackle the challenges of this strange time of our history.
