GNFS Replies Onua TV For Calling Them Unprofessional

Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has reacted to Onua TV’s recent publication calling GNFS unprofessional following a reportage on a fire incident at Media General.

It all started when the Ghana National Fire Service posted on their Facebook page on 21st August, 2023, that there was a fire incident at media general premises. According to the post, Ghana National Fire Service arrived at the studios on time to help prevent fire spread at the premises of TV. Following this post, Onua TV came out with a notice making it clear that there have been some false reportage by Ghana National Fire Service. According to them, members of the media house were able to put out the fire before the arrival of the fire men. The media house is therefore urging the fire men be professional and factual with their publications.

“Onua TV has expressed concern about the publication of a fire incident that occurred on Monday August 21, 2023, on the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) social media platform. The publication falsely reported that “a crew from the headquarters substation, upon a call, arrived on time to help prevent the spread of fire”. The facts are that the fire had already been put out by our staff, with onsite extinguishers, before the firefighters arrived. Moreover, the fire did not occur “in the Studio used by Onua Showtime with Mcbrown” as reported. Rather, the incident happened at the entrance to the studio. The false publication was widely republished on other social media and online platforms, thereby causing alarm and unnecessary panic among our stakeholders. The misrepresentation of facts was unprofessional and GNFS is urged to be factual in its publications.” Onua TV reacted.

The Ghana National Fire Service in it’s latest publication has stated it clearly that they never claimed to have estinguished the fire in the first place. They tagged Onua TV’s reply as irresponsible. Ghana National Fire Service also retracted their earlier post, not because they were guilty.
