WEAC’s BECE result website, hacked earlier goes down again

Days after WAEC recovered its result portal after it was hacked by a Vietnam-based hacker, the portal has gone off again. It is not clear what the challenge is currently, as WAEC is yet to release a new official statement on the issue.

However, a visit to the site shows the following message:

The information shown on the site at the time we checked indicates that WEAC’s BECE result website is currently under another cyberattack, and so FortiGuard is an anti-cyber security alert that has been activated to fight back the attack and safeguard the site.

Should the site be attacked and its data protection be breached, it can affect the release of the 2023 BECE results and lead to the release of fake results on the portal, among others.

WAEC is expected to release the 2023 BECE result before the end of the year. The result will be accessed from this website, which has attracted hackers in recent times.

Again, the results of other students who sat for the BECE in the past are all accessible on the same site. The continuous cyberattack on the site shows that WAEC’s online security has been breached. This might have informed the need to seek the services of FortiGuard, an anti-cyber security firm, to help safeguard the site, its data, and its future use.

In October 2023 alone, FortiGuard, an anti-cyber security company, reported 5484 attacks that affected clients it provides services to.
