Mohammed Kudus could miss Ghana’s AFCON opener against Cape Verde on Sunday.
According to reports, the West Ham star player, Mohammed Kudus could miss Ghana’s AFCON opener on Sunday.
According to 3Sports, the player’s injury is worse than initially thought, which is why his presence at the Ghana camp has been delayed.
The 23-year-old is currently recovering from a hamstring injury that has kept him out of the Black Stars’ pre-tournament camp.
Kudus also missed Ghana’s international friendly against Namibia on Monday at the Baba Yara Stadium, which ended goalless.
The West Ham United midfielder is likely to go to the Ivory Coast with his international teammates ahead of the start of the AFCON.
According to 3Sports, Kudus’ injury is more serious than first worried, and he now faces missing Ghana’s first AFCON game against Cape Verde.
The Black Stars will open the tournament against the Blue Sharks on January 14, 2024, before facing Egypt and Mozambique in Group B.
Kudus has been one of West Ham’s standout performers this season, scoring eight goals in all competitions.
The former Ajax forward missed the previous AFCON due to injuries and did not appear in Cameroon despite being named to the Black Stars squad list.
Meanwhile, the Ghana FA has issued a statement stating that Mohammed Kudus would join the national team before they depart for the AFCON on Wednesday.
Mohammed Kudus has arrived in Accra and will join the squad before our departure for Abidjan on Wednesday, January 10, 2024,” the statement from Ghana FA said.
“The midfielder is recovering from a minor injury he picked up while playing for West Ham United against Arsenal in the Premier League on Thursday, December 28, 2023. The player is currently undergoing rehabilitation.
“The medical team of the Black Stars is monitoring his progress and is happy to have him join the squad for the 34th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations in Cote D’Ivoire,”.
