2 Private School Associations to hold press conference on govt’s 30% priority placement system
Two Private School Associations in a bid to advocate for fair educational opportunities for all students are jointly set to hold a press conference on the 30% priority placement system introduced by the central government.
Describing the e 30% priority placement system that gives public school students an advantage in school placement over their private colleagues, the Associations say the conference is to ensure a merit-based path for private school students.
The press conference is scheduled for Thursday, November 14, 2024, at the Ghana International Press Centre, Accra, on the theme “Equal Access for All: Addressing Inequalities in Senior High School Admissions.”
Speakers for the press conference are the National Executive Director of the Ghana National Council of Private Schools (GNACOPS), Enoch Gyetuah and National President of Ghana National Association of Private Schools (GNAPS), Prof Damasus Tuurosong.
A Deputy spokesman of the Ministry, Ernest Akosah explaining the 30% quota said such a percentage is allotted to public students because the learning facilities in public schools are not adequate, as compared to those in private institutions.
“We (Ministry of Education) have what we call 30% equity quota that we give to those who attended public schools because, if you look at the infrastructure and logistics in the government Junior High Schools (JHS) in the country
we try to also create that enabling environment so that they can also have the opportunity to taste what is happening at Presbyterian Boys Secondary School, Achimota Senior High School and other Category A schools,” Mr Enerst said.
