Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) public relations officer Peter Tetteh Korda has praised the government for the “One Teacher, One Laptop” initiative, which aims to improve teaching and learning in schools.

Korda encouraged teachers to make excellent use of their laptops and to use them for the intended objectives of improving teaching and learning in schools.

At Saint Mary’s Senior High School in Accra, Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia launched the “One Teacher, One Laptop” program on September 3.

Fourth-grade teachers at Saint Mary’s Senior High School were given with computers by the Vice President.

Every public school teacher, from kindergarten through high school, would get a laptop as part of the initiative.

As a result, the government will pay 70% and each instructor will pay 30% as part of arrangements for the one teacher one laptop initiative.

The manufacturer of the laptops is a local ICT company called K A Technologies

However, the Innovative teachers have called on the GES not to deduct any funds from the salaries of teachers who are members of their union.

The leader of the Innovative Teachers Mr. Stephne Desu has indicated that the one teacher one laptop initiative laptops are of lower quality and it must be supplied to teachers who opt for them. Any attempt to impose it on teachers as compulsory will lead to the union dragging the GES and the MoRE to the court he added.
