What To Do If Your Child Always Bedwetting While Sleeping

What To Do If Your Child Always Urinates On The Bed While Sleeping

Child Bedwetting, also known as nocturnal enuresis, is a common condition that affects many children during their early years. While it can be frustrating for both parents and child, it is essential to understand that bedwetting is a normal part of development and is usually outgrown with time.

However, there are practical steps parents can take to support their child and help them achieve nighttime dryness. In this comprehensive article, we will explore strategies and tips to tackle bedwetting and assist your child in overcoming this temporary phase.

1. Create a Supportive Environment:

It is crucial to create a caring and supportive environment for your child.  Child bedwetting can be embarrassing and may affect their self-esteem. Reassure your child that it is a common issue and that you are there to help them overcome it. Offer encouragement and praise for their efforts and progress.

2. Rule Out Underlying Medical Conditions:

In some cases, child bedwetting may be related to underlying medical conditions, such as urinary tract infections or hormonal imbalances according to Healthine and MedicalNewsToday. If you are concerned, consult a pediatrician, who can rule out any potential medical causes and provide appropriate guidance.

3. Limit Fluid Intake Before Bedtime:

Encourage your child to drink plenty of fluids during the day, but it is advisable to limit their intake in the evening, particularly within the hour or two before bedtime. This can help reduce the volume of urine produced during the night according to WebMD to avoid bedwetting.

4. Establish a Bedtime Routine:

Maintain a consistent bedtime routine, including regular bedtimes and consistent pre-bedtime activities. Establishing a routine helps signal to the body that it is time to relax and prepare for sleep. Incorporate a bathroom trip just before bed to empty the bladder.

5. Use Protective Bedding:

Invest in waterproof mattress protectors or bed pads to preserve the mattress and make clean-up easier in case of accidents. This allows your child to sleep comfortably without the added stress of potential messes.

6. Offer Encouragement for Nighttime Toileting:

Encourage your child to use the bathroom before going to bed, even if they don’t feel the urge to urinate. Wake them up once during the night to empty their bladder. Over time, this can help retrain the brain to recognize the need to awaken when the bladder is full.

7. Bedwetting Alarms:

Consider using a bedwetting alarm system, which alerts the child when they start to urinate. These alarms use moisture sensors and are designed to awaken the child so they can finish urinating in the toilet. Over time, the child’s brain learns to associate bladder fullness with waking up and using the bathroom.

8. Encourage Positive Morning Routines:

Implement a positive morning routine that includes your child taking responsibility for changing their own pajamas and helping with changing the bed linens if an accident occurs. This teaches accountability and gives them a sense of ownership in managing the situation.

9. Seek Professional Help if Needed:

If Child bedwetting persists and causes significant distress for your child after trying the above strategies, it may be beneficial to consult a pediatrician or pediatric urologist. They can provide additional guidance, evaluate any underlying causes, and offer further treatment options if necessary.

GJA Expresses Disappointment with Oppong Nkrumah’s Wobbling Condemnation of Attack on UTV

GJA expresses disappointment with Oppong Nkrumah’s wobbling condemnation of attack on UTV

The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has expressed its utmost disappointment in a press statement issued by the Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah on the invasion of UTV by alleged NPP members and sympathisers.

According to the Association, the statement was wobbling and paled in the face of an earlier statement issued by the Minister when Dagbon FM was attacked by an NDC member.

On Saturday, some men believed to be affiliated to the ruling New Patriotic Party stormed the premise of UTV and temporarily interrupted the United Showbiz show.

They threatened to attack the host and her panel, accusing them of disparaging the ruling administration unfairly.

Comparing both statements issued by the Minister, GJA noted the sharp contrast in tone and diction, suggesting that the Minister has not been even-handed in addressing the issues.

“In the second paragraph of the press statement, the Minister tries to justify the barbaric attack by holding that the hooligans entered UTV“allegedly without authorization” when he was the very person who reported to, and called in, the Police; in the fourth paragraph, the Minister avoids direct condemnation of the hooligans and conveniently makes his condemnation general, and, worst of all, in the last paragraph, the Minister imposes a burden on the media to promote national cohesion, regardless of the incessant attacks against them.

“The Minister’s press statement is in sharp contrast to another one issued by the PR Unit of his Ministry on May 4, 2023, in respect of the attack on a radio presenter on Dagbon FM in Tamale by a communicator of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“The Ministry’s May 2023 press statement was very direct: the Ministry described the attack as ASSAULT without any “allegedly” clothing; the Ministry condemned the act, specifically without giving it general direction; the Ministry called for “severe and speedy response from law enforcement agencies” to avoid future recurrence; the Minister had a telephone conversation with victim of assault, and the Minister “offered the support of the Ministry if he will require any”.

“Between the two cases – Dagbon FM and UTV, the Minister of Information and/or the Ministry of Information has or have not been even-handed in addressing the critical issues at stake, and we find that very worrying,” the GJA stated.

The GJA called on the media “to be bold and never be intimidated by such acts of hooliganism, knowing that we serve the larger interest of the public.

“We also wish to urge media practitioners and institutions to act professionally at all times in the discharge of their duties.”

Meanwhile, GJA has urged the NPP to appropriately sanction the party members who had played a part in the invasion.

“Inasmuch as we welcome the apology, we can only place value on its sanctity, and embrace it beyond rhetoric, if the party sanctions the perpetrators for doing something it did not sanction.

“Indeed, the GJA cannot uphold the sanctity of the apology when spokespersons of the NPP, some connected to the communications directorate, had earlier instigated such hooliganism against the television station without being reprimanded,” the GJA stated.

Earlier it had condemned and called for the arrest and prosecution of the NPP invaders.

Teacher Unions Should Take Some Responsibility For The Lack Of Teachers In Rural Areas – Richard Ahiagbah

Teacher Unions Should Take Some Responsibility For The Lack Of Teachers In Rural Areas – Richard Ahiagbah

The New Patriotic Party’s Communications Director, Richard Ahiagbah says members of the various teachers associations must bear some of the responsibility for the lack of teachers in rural areas. Let’s find in this article has been clarified about this lack of teachers in the rural areas.

Mr Ahiagbah said this because according to his experience, many teachers after years of training turn down postings to rural areas, while others seek transfers from there.

Speaking in an interview to the media, Mr Ahiagbah said that “people don’t want to accept posting to the rural areas. At the end of the day, you’ve been given teacher-trainee allowances, and nursing-trainee allowances, you have finished school, and the government has spent on you. In fact, one of the motivations for paying those allowances is that you will accept the posting.”

“So the teacher association groups should not be looking to government, they should be looking to their group members.”

He insists leadership must question members for refusing the postings even after accepting the allowances.

He stated that this has created a shortage of teachers in rural areas with some schools having less than five teachers running the facilities.

“I think the government has done well so far, but the practical issue requires all of us to pitch in,” he stressed.

His comment follows the Education Minister’s insistence at a symposium that Ghana did not have a teacher shortage but a deployment challenge.

This was after Registrar of the National Teaching Council, Dr Christian Addai-Poku, also at the event, raised concern about the high attrition rate in the nation’s education sector, stating the threat it poses towards the future of the nation’s educational system and development.

According to him, early this year a little over 16,000 Ghanaian teachers applied to the Department of Education in the UK for employment and by June 13th 2023, 10,000 of the applicants with Ghana Teacher Licenses had been certified to work in the UK without any further assessment (qualified teacher status test) by the UK government.

He appealed to the government and all other stakeholders to put in place the right measures to curb the situation to avoid looming danger.

But Mr Ahiagbah believes that aside from encouraging teachers to take up postings in rural areas, Parliament can create policies that ensure incentives are given to such teachers among others to motivate them.

“Article 36 under the Directive Principle of State Policy says that we should make a conscious effort to balance this development between rural and urban areas. So if that is the policy then you (MPs) are properly armed with a legislative capacity to make policy in that direction so that government’s allocation of resources will prioritize rural areas.”

He was optimistic that Parliament’s involvement will ensure that “the kinds of development that must be there are put there like building schools, ensuring that accommodation is prepared for people when they go there, some allowances are given to them and maybe their professional development also receives attention, so there’s a special regime created – an incentive to drive the acceptance of postings to those areas.”

Dark tea could lower risk of diabetes

Dark tea could lower risk of diabetes

Sipping dark tea daily has the potential to lower the risk and progression of type 2 diabetes in adults, according to a new study.  A study revealed that dark tea drinkers had a 53% lower risk of prediabetes and a 47% reduced risk of type 2 diabetes.

Here will know how its different from black tea (The Dark Tea). Contrary to what most people think that just because tea is black or dark-coloured doesn’t mean it’s called dark tea.

The research was presented at the Annual Meeting of The European Association for the Study of Diabetes and was conducted by experts from the University of Adelaide in Australia and Southeast University in China,

The study revealed that dark tea drinkers were blessed with a 53% lower risk of prediabetes and a 47% reduced risk of type 2 diabetes. Astonishingly, these benefits persisted even after accounting for other known risk factors for diabetes.

Associate Professor Tongzhi Wu, co-lead author of the study, shared that the remarkable health advantages of tea have been widely reported, including its ability to lower the risk of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes.

However, the exact mechanisms behind these benefits have remained elusive. The team’s findings suggest that habitual tea drinking may enhance blood sugar management through increased glucose excretion in urine, improved insulin resistance and better control of blood sugar.

The study included 1,923 adults from different provinces in China, with varying tea-drinking habits. After analysis, the researchers discovered that daily tea consumption was associated with increased urinary glucose excretion and reduced insulin resistance, leading to a decreased risk of prediabetes and type 2 diabetes.

The benefits were most evident among those who indulged in dark tea.

What is dark tea?

Dark tea is not to be confused with black tea. Contrary to what most people think just because tea is black or dark-coloured doesn’t mean it’s called dark tea.

Dark tea

Dark tea is a mixture of six major tea categories in China. It is produced using microbial fermentation. It is a combination of the following types of tea.

  • Pu-erh tea
  • Liubao (also known as Liupao or Liupu) tea
  • Fuzhuan brick tea
  • Qingzhuan brick tea
  • Kangzhuan brick tea

As per the study, dark tea may have extra health benefits because of the fermentation process. That process makes it antioxidant-rich with anti-inflammatory effects. It could have improved insulin sensitivity and performance of insulin-producing cells, and a more diverse gut microbiome, according to the researchers.

However, the authors caution that this study, like any observational study, cannot establish a causal relationship between tea drinking and blood sugar control.

BECE 2023 Marking Begins On Monday — WAEC

BECE 2023 Marking Begins On Monday — WAEC

The marking of scripts of this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination BECE 2023 will commence on Monday, October 9, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has said.

On Wednesday, WAEC initiated the coordination process which involved bringing the markers together to familiarise themselves with the marking scheme up to today.

“They will finish the coordination on Friday (today) and by Monday, October 9, the actual marking will start,” the Head of Public Affairs of WAEC, John Kapi, told the Daily Graphic yesterday.

He said marking of the scripts, which formed part of the second process of the examination, had a challenge with the release of funds.

“So we have started the process, but what we are saying is that if monies are not released, we may not be able to complete it,” he said.

There has been some apprehension over the delay in the marking of this year’s examination papers but Mr Kapi said WAEC held a meeting with the Minister of Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, last Monday and he gave an assurance that he was going to release some funds to the council.

He stressed that no one was on strike regarding the marking of the scripts.

Following the government’s indebtedness to WAEC, there were fears that the 2023 BECE for school and private candidates would not be held.

However, the government later released GH¢50.5 million to the WAEC to conduct the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and the BECE.

Out of the amount, GH¢40 million went into the successful conduct of the WASSCE, representing about 30 per cent of the total amount needed for the conduct of the exam.
