The Education Minister, Haruna Iddrisu, has told candidates sitting this year’s BECE to let honesty and integrity guide them throughout the exam.
Speaking to candidates at the Asawinso Senior High School exam centre in Sefwi Wiawso, Western North Region, the Minister said strong moral values matter a lot for both school and national growth.
“Honesty and integrity define citizenship, honesty and integrity define patriotism and honesty and integrity must be the hallmark of your moulding,” he told the candidates.
Mr Iddrisu said he was worried about the rising cases of exam cheating, noting that such acts often lead to results being withheld or cancelled completely.
He urged candidates to trust their own preparation and stay away from any form of cheating. The Minister also gave a strong warning to exam officials, telling them to be professional and not help anyone cheat.
He said officials caught helping would face tough punishment, recalling that some people involved in past exam cheating had been jailed. Mr Iddrisu further said that teachers who were convicted would have their names taken off the Ghana Education Service payroll.
