The Controller & Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD) has issued a critical directive to all government employees across covered entities. In a move to streamline the government payroll system, the department has announced that employees with unverified or mismatched National Identification Authority (NIA) details will face immediate salary suspension effective March 15, 2026.
The Department explained the necessity of this measure, stating, “As part of additional measures to deliver a robust and efficient payroll system to government employees, the Department has rolled out an upgraded e-Payslip platform to enable all employees to access their monthly payslips with ease.”
The Root of the CAGD 2026 Salary Suspension Issue: Data Discrepancies
This directive follows the rollout of the upgraded platform, which revealed significant data discrepancies. Many employees’ NIA numbers captured on the payroll do not correspond with official records held by the NIA.
Highlighting the gravity of these errors, the CAGD noted, “The department identified critical data discrepancies that prevent some employees from accessing their payslips on the platform. These discrepancies are due to NIA numbers which were captured on the payroll system but do not correspond with the employee’s NIA records.”

Key Deadlines and Actions for Affected Staff
The CAGD has made it clear that verifying NIA details is a mandatory prerequisite for an upcoming nationwide employee re-verification exercise. To avoid the March 15th deadline, affected staff must work with their human resource departments to complete the following:
Correct NIA Numbers: Ensure the Ghana Card number on the payroll system matches the physical card.
Submit Documentation: Provide a clear print copy of the Ghana Card, an application for correction/insertion, and any relevant transfer letters to the CAGD.
Check Corporate Emails: A full list of “flagged” employees has been sent to the corporate emails of all covered entities for immediate action.
The CAGD issued a final warning to those yet to comply: “We wish to inform these Covered Entities that employees without verified NIA details will have their salaries suspended effective 15th March 2026. This measure is a prerequisite for an upcoming nationwide employee re-verification exercise.”
