Galamsey Economy Effects: Dismissal from an allegation without investigations

Charles Adu Boahen
The Galamsey Economy Effects and the associated dismissal from an allegation without investigations have got many people talking and asking big questions. So has GeorgeYankah as he analyses the reactions from Jubilee House.
George Yankah writes…
DISMISSAL FROM AN ALLEGATION WITHOUT INVESTIGATIONS
This sounds like severe lightning followed by heavy thunder in an unexpected downpour.
President Nana Akufo Addo is not very much used to firing appointees accused of inappropriate behaviour with such lightning speed like the dismissal of Charles Adu Boahen, Minister of State at the Ministry of Finance.
It is interesting to note that the Tiger Eye secretly filmed the documentary ‘Galamsey Economy’ based on which this fast decision has been made is yet to be premiered. Premiering is fixed for Monday 14th and Tuesday the 15th November, 2022.
And what is more?
No investigations whatsoever have been conducted into these allegations.
Actually the President has referred the matter to the Special Prosecutor for action.
What about if after the supposed investigations, the allegation proves to be false?
Will Charles Adu Boahen be reinstated, compensated, or both?
Come to think of the fact that the Communications Director who prepared the dismissal letter on the orders of the President signed it himself but not on behalf of the President as standard governance practice will dictate.
Another communication from the Vice-president Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia arising out of this allegations by Tiger Eye stated inter alia, “I would like to state that if what the minister is alleged to have said is accurately captured in the video, then his position as a Minister of State is untenable. He should be dismissed summarily and investigated.”
So the Vice-president ordered the President to perform this function and the President obliged?
Has there been any secret reshuffle at the Jubilee House unknown to fellow Ghanaians?
Charles Adu Boahen in his reaction denied the accusations and stated among others that, “I do not wish to be a distraction to government and the Ministry of Finance at this crucial moment. ”
“Consequently I have submitted my resignation to the President of the Republic. I will however look forward to a full investigation which I hope will reveal that I have not committed this act.”
So was the Minister’s appointment terminated before he resigned or vice versa?
It is very amazing. Look at this. The Director of Communications was once badly exposed in a family law suit at an Accra High Court in February 2021. He was said to be ‘sitting at home’ until his appointment at the Jubilee House in 2017, and has allegedly within four years performed miraculously better than the NPP Government in terms of infrastructure among other amenities as his trophies. These are said to be scattered in Accra and other places including Awutu Senya, his home town in the Central Region. He never denied ownership of the said massive acquisitions.
The President conveniently left him off the hook without a whimper much more investigations.
The same applies to countless appointees, including the embattled Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta, who is also alleged to have soiled his hands and of course his all white apparel in course of duties.
Now the allegedly tainted Director of Communications has the power to write and sign the dismissal letter of another appointee on allegations yet to be investigated.
The current governance structure in Ghana needs urgent attention.
Ghana has not just gained independence from colonial masters.
We are in an advanced stage of the Fourth Republic and even more.
