The Ghana Education Service (GES) the Study Leave with Pay Qualifications for 2022/2023 details for staff who intend to embark on further studies.
Members of the GES who intend to benefit from the Study Leave with pay must meet the 2022/2023 year requirements.
- To qualify for study leave, the applicant must have served not less than 3 years after completing College of Education or must have served a minimum of two years in a deprived district or school according to the GES standard and definition.
- The applicant seeking the 2022/2023 study leave with pay must be interested in pursuing an approved course or programme which has been determined by the Director of Education.
- The staff of the service, who are pursuing second and third degrees, do not qualify for the study leave.
- Teachers of the service who have attained the rank of Principal superintend through either Sandwich or Distance programme are not qualified for the Study Leave with Pay.
- Again, employees of the GES who are 55 years and above cannot access the study leave with a pay window for further study, even if they meet the requirements stated above.

However, teachers who opt for Study Leave without pay are likely to suffer the following drawbacks
a. They will lose their monthly salary and SSNIT contributions.
b. They will be denied outright posting by the GES after they complete their study.
c. The staff may face a re-entry challenge, especially through replacement, where a staff number is required.
d. The teacher will be denied promotion while in school.
f. His or her years in school to study will not be counted as part of the year of service.

Teachers who intend to go on study leave with or without pay can pick up the form at the registry. Complete and submit at the appropriate office.
Completed application forms should be submitted at the office of the Municipal Director of Education no later than 17th June 2022.
