The Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) has released GH¢22.3 million to all senior high schools (SHS) and senior high technical schools (SHTS) to cover the fees for the 2026 WASSCE practicals.
This amount forms part of three cheques totalling GH¢199,471,691, which was recently released to settle outstanding payments for perishable supplies and other educational needs in SHS and SHTS. This payment ensures that all practical examinations for the 2026 WASSCE are fully supported, including the provision of the required materials and other essential resources.
As per GETFund, this move shows the government’s commitment to making sure that no candidate is denied access to any part of the 2026 WASSCE. This means that the government has fully paid for the 2026 WASSCE practical examinations, so students should not be asked to pay any money. Heads of schools are therefore expected to ensure that their actions do not prevent any student from taking part in the examination.
Confirming the release of the funds, the Ghana Education Service (GES), through the Head of Public Relations, Daniel Fenyi, stated that the payment will support all practical exams and provide the needed materials.
The statement also explained that the release of the funds will help ensure a smooth and well-organized examination process, allowing students to focus on their studies while reducing the financial burden on parents and guardians.
All regional district, and school authorities have been advised to use the funds properly for their intended purpose to ensure efficiency and accountability.
