Ghana Armed Forces Dismisses Claims Of Withdrawing Military Personnel From Mepe

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) have officially refuted claims of withdrawing Military personnel from Mepe in the Volta region and other areas affected by the Akosombo Dam spillage. In a statement released on Sunday, October 22, 2023, by the Department of Public Relations of the Ghana Armed Forces, the allegations were firmly denied.
These allegations had gained traction due to various statements and social media videos, asserting that the military had received orders to pull back from Mepe and its surroundings. Notably, one video depicted Armed Forces personnel loading canoes used for delivering relief supplies onto a truck, and Hon. Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, was present in the video. He claimed that the military had received an “order from above” to cease operations in the area.
