Ghanaian Pilgrims Arrive in Jedda

The first group of 425 Ghanaian Muslim pilgrims from the five northern regions have safely arrived in Jedda, Saudi Arabia, to begin their spiritual journey for the 2025 Hajj pilgrimage. The pilgrims were airlifted directly from the Yakubu Tali International Airport (TIA) in Tamale on Saturday, marking the beginning of the pilgrimage season. More groups of pilgrims are scheduled to depart in the coming days, with a total of around 6,000 Ghanaian pilgrims expected to travel to Saudi Arabia this year.

This year’s pilgrimage sees a notable increase in the number of pilgrims, with 2,000 more individuals traveling from northern Ghana compared to the previous year, when 4,000 pilgrims participated. The increase highlights the growing participation in the Hajj pilgrimage and the importance of the event within the Ghanaian Muslim community.

In a speech to the pilgrims, Alhaji Dauda, a key official overseeing the Hajj arrangements, urged the travelers to be disciplined and law-abiding during their stay in Saudi Arabia. He emphasized that adhering to the laws and regulations of the host country would help ensure that the pilgrims successfully complete their spiritual duties.

Alhaji Dauda also reassured the pilgrims that adequate measures had been put in place to guarantee their safety and security while in Saudi Arabia. He assured them that provisions for daily meals would be available for the entire duration of their stay in Madina, and that comfortable accommodations in standard hotels had been arranged for them in Mecca.

Collins Dauda, Chairman of the Interim Hajj Taskforce, along with government officials including Northern Regional Minister Adolf Ali John, Minister of the Interior Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, and Minister of Education Haruna Iddrisu, visited the pilgrims at the Tamale airport to bid them farewell. The government officials wished the pilgrims a safe and peaceful journey, reaffirming that the arrangements made were of the highest quality to ensure their comfort and well-being during the pilgrimage.

Alhaji Muntaka, speaking to the pilgrims, expressed his well-wishes for their safe journey and urged them to use the opportunity to pray for peace, stability, and development in Ghana. He encouraged them to remember their country during their prayers and to seek blessings for the nation.

The Northern Regional Minister also took the opportunity to advise the pilgrims on the spiritual and logistical requirements for performing Hajj, offering guidance to ensure that their pilgrimage would be carried out smoothly.

Several of the pilgrims expressed satisfaction with the arrangements made by both the Hajj agents and the Hajj committee, praising the thorough planning that had been undertaken to make their journey successful. The positive feedback from the pilgrims indicated a high level of confidence in the preparation for this year’s Hajj, with many feeling well-supported and prepared for the spiritual journey ahead.
