Government Absorbs ¢465 WASSCE Registration Fee For Public SHS Students
The government of Ghana absorbs the 2024 WASSCE registration fee of Gh¢465 for all final year students in public senior high schools.
This was announced in a recent press conference held in Accra by the Ghana Education Service (GES).
Dr. Eric Nkansah, Director General of GES, emphasized that parents should not pay any money for WASSCE registration for their wards in the program. Registration for Form Three SHS students will commence upon their return from break on April 17, 2024.
Dr. Nkansah also expressed appreciation for the three pre-tertiary Teacher Unions – Ghana National Association of Teachers, National Association of Graduate Teachers, and the Coalition of Concerned Teachers Ghana – for calling off their two-week-old strike. He assured continued engagement with the unions to address their demands for better working conditions, incentives, and benefits.
The decision to end the strike came after the National Labour Commission (NLC) secured an interim injunction to halt the industrial action. The unions plan to resume teaching while maintaining dialogue with the government to address their concerns.
Meanwhile, the West African Examinations Council has opened registration portals for the 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), West African Senior Schools Certificate Examination (WASSCE), and General Advanced Business Certificate Examination candidates. The WASSCE examinations are scheduled to commence on Monday, August 5, 2024, and conclude on September 27, 2024.
This comes after the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) announced the commencement of the WASSCE for School Candidates, 2024. According to WAEC, 2024 WASSCE registration fee is GH¢465
The 2024 WASSCE is scheduled to begin from Monday, 5th August to Friday, 27th September 2024.
2024 WASSCE Registration Violations
- Registering students lacking continuous assessment records or who aren’t bona fide students of the school.
- Enrolling students seeking grade improvement from previous WASSCE attempts, redirecting them to the WASSCE for Private Candidates.
- Advertising the examination, particularly by unaccredited “banner schools,” which exploit candidates for profit.
