Landmark Move As Government Pays 2025 WASSCE Practical Fees for All SHS Candidates.
In a historic first, the Government of Ghana has paid the practical examination fees for all candidates participating in the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
The Ghana Education Service (GES), which disbursed the funds on behalf of the government, confirmed the payment in a press release. The statement, signed by Mr. Daniel Fenyi, Head of Public Relations for GES, disclosed that this initiative aims to relieve all final-year students in public Senior High Schools (SHS) and Senior High Technical Schools (SHTS) across the country from this extra cost, allowing them to focus entirely on their examinations.
Pays 2025 WASSCE Practical Fees: Easing Financial Burdens on Parents and Students
According to the GES, the released funds will cover the practical components for all candidates undertaking subjects with a practical assessment in the 2025 WASSCE.
The statement emphasized that the payment of the practical fees is a key part of the government’s efforts to remove financial barriers that could hinder students’ participation in their examinations. This move is expected to significantly ease the financial burden on parents and guardians.
“GES seeks to facilitate a smooth and well-coordinated examination process that enables students to focus on their academic work,” the statement noted.
Ensuring Accountability and Smooth Implementation
To ensure the funds are used appropriately, management and leadership at the senior secondary level have been tasked with judiciously applying the resources. The Service stressed that it will closely monitor the utilisation process to ensure full compliance and maintain high standards throughout the examination period.
“The Ghana Education Service appreciates the cooperation of all stakeholders in advancing quality education and remains dedicated to creating an enabling environment for the success of all students,” the statement added.

The 2025 WASSCE is scheduled to take place over seven weeks with the following key dates:
- Start Date: Monday, August 4, 2025
- End Date: Friday, September 19, 2025
