One of the sources of income for teacher unions is monthly dues, however, GNAT dues collection seems to be under attack now after the 4% base pay brouhaha. The chalk fraternity in Ghana is putting pressure on the leadership of the teacher unions. Halt the GNAT dues collection now is the latest advice to GNAT by one Dennis Emmanuel Apisuah.
He writes…
The essence of one belonging to any association or union is that his or her interest is served, however, GNAT for several years now are serving their own interest to the neglect of their paymaster the Teacher.
I am of the opinion that, since leadership has seen the need to negotiate 4% salary increment with the view that, we are not in normal times, monthly dues of members be stop from the month of August, 2021 until normal times come such that when they are able to negotiate well for it’s members then, they would have the moral right to demand dues from us as members. GNAT members should not only be interested in locking the offices of their secretaries, but let us also demand the total seizure of the deduction of our dues, which they only use to enrich themselves and enslav us with high percentage interest rates of loans.
Let us, as teachers rise against this injustice where our monthly dues is used to enrich the few who because of their selfishness become our leaders. GNAT is one of the teacher unions with so much Treasury as Profit from loans, monies from our buildings/GNAT hostels which are not given to members, interest accrued from our investments among others.
I therefore request that, CAGD should not deduct any GNAT dues for the month of August,2021 and others months until GNAT Leadership is able to get us a higher percentage than the article 71 holders whom the teacher taught.
All article 71 holders are the products of the teacher and as such must not earn more salary or allowances than the one who made them what they are today. Teachers of Ghana especially the youth let us rise against this injustice.
We didn’t become Teachers to be billionaires, but we should also be able to have a good purchasing power such that we can also feed our families and pay the bills which the article 71 holders don’t pay.

Well spoken My brother that is the actual truth to our leaders who do not have time for the teachers who pays them and the family. I support the move.
Our leaders are our doom
In fact, you have hit on the head of the nail l really like the spirit; we are not in normal times, therefore, we can not be paying our normal due, this leadership must be collapsed they’re too egocentric. This is unthinkable to see leadership on the negotiation table going in for 4 percent. This is totally unacceptable.
I think the move for suspending the collection of GNAT due is in place. I am strongly in support, if they are able to fight for the right cause, why not, we shall restore the payment of the dues so they can also benefit from there labour.
God will bless abundantly for this great advice
Great move
