How To Protect Yourself From An Unintended Pregnancy

This write-up is to educate people on How To Protect Yourself From An Unintended Pregnancy.

You probably know all about the risks involved in sex and the various precautions you need to take to protect yourself from contracting a sexually transmitted infection. But, it’s not something you plan for or think about every day. The risk of unplanned pregnancy often doesn’t enter our minds until it’s too late. Let’s face it – in this day and age, there are so many things we need to consider before having sex with someone. If you’re not ready for children yet, or if you just don’t want them right now, then read on for some helpful tips and advice on how to protect yourself from an unintended pregnancy.

Condoms

Condoms are the most widely used method of contraception in the world. They are cheap, easy to get hold of and extremely effective if used correctly. Condoms come in a variety of shapes, sizes, flavours and textures so you can find one that fits you and your partner’s needs. If you’re in a long-term relationship, but are not yet ready to have children, condoms are an ideal choice of contraception as they are both reliable and inexpensive. Condoms can also reduce the risk of transmitting STIs such as gonorrhoea, chlamydia, syphilis, HPV and HIV.However, condoms are not 100% effective, so don’t forget to keep an eye on your partner’s health and sexual history before deciding to use condoms.

The Morning After Pill

The morning after pill (usually referred to as “Plan B”) is a popular form of emergency contraception that can prevent an unwanted pregnancy after unprotected sex. It is available over-the-counter without a prescription in many countries, including the US, Canada, the UK, Australia, and many EU countries. The morning after pill can be used if you have had unprotected sex, failed to use contraception, or your regular contraceptive method failed (for example, a condom broke during sex). The effectiveness of the morning after pill depends on how quickly you take it. It’s best to take it within 72 hours (3 days) of having unprotected sex. Forgetting to take your birth control pills every day also counts as a failure in the contraception department, so don’t forget to take the morning after pill within the allotted time.

Birth Control Pills and IUDs

Another method that couples can use to prevent pregnancy is the birth control pill. If you’re in a steady relationship and have been with your partner for some time, a birth control pill may be the best method of contraception for you.Birth control pills work by mimicking a woman’s natural hormone cycles, tricking the body into thinking that the person is already pregnant, which prevents them from ovulating. However, birth control pills must be taken at the same time every day for them to be effective, so be sure that you can keep up with a daily routine.Another method of contraception is the intrauterine device (IUD). An IUD is a small device that is inserted into the uterus via the cervix to prevent pregnancy. IUDs are extremely effective at preventing pregnancy, with less than 1% of women becoming pregnant each year. There are two types of IUDs available – copper and hormonal IUDs.

Emergency Contraception (The Morning After Pill)

The morning after pill is an emergency contraceptive and can be used to prevent pregnancy after unprotected sex. It is not meant to be used as a regular method of contraception, as it is less effective than other forms of contraception. There are two different types of morning after pills available in the UK. One is a one-off pill, and the other is a two-dose course, taken 12 hours apart. The one-off morning after pill is more effective than the two-dose course, but it is important to take both doses within the 72-hour time frame. The morning after pill, or emergency contraception, can be used by anyone who has had unprotected sex, even if you’re on the birth control pill.

Conclusion

Remember that the best way to prevent unintended pregnancies is to use contraception. However, it is important to realise that no form of contraception is 100% foolproof. Still, if you’re in a steady relationship, it makes sense to be on the same birth control method as your partner. That way, you can be sure that you’re both protected. If you have had unprotected sex and are unsure as to whether or not you should take the emergency contraception pill, it’s best to play it safe and take one just to be on the safe side. And if you’re trying to conceive, be sure to take extra precautions to avoid unplanned pregnancy.
