Investing in National Cathedral doesn’t make sense, Ken Ofori-Atta is thinking Analogue – Kwaku Sintim-Misa (Video)
Ghana’s well celebrated Satirist, Kwaku Sintim-Misa indicated that Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta’s way of thinking is a little analogue regarding spending on the National Cathedral. He therefore called for proactive and strategic thinking, choice making and planning as far as building and investing in the National Cathedral is concerned at this critical time when Ghana is at the IMF with a cup in hand.
Speaking on My JoyNews AMShow on 8th December, monitored by the Religion and Faith desk at Ghanaeducation.org, he indicated that the best way to serve God was to serve in humility and that God was not homeless, for which reason the government wants to continue spending scarce resources on the National Cathedral project.
He furthered that “What is the relevant thing? What is the priority?” he, quizzed the decision of President Akufo Addo and Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta’s to continue to pump more money into a needless project when the country was struggling to secure funds from the IMF to stabilize the economy.
He could not understand the logic behind the decision to go on with spending on the National Cathedral when Ghana was begging the IMF for a bailout.
“Are we joking with God? Did God tell us He was homeless? Kwaku Sintim-Misa asked again. “It doesn’t make sense, and the same Bible that they use (referring to the men of God on the National Cathedral board).
He quoted Luke 14:28-30 “For which of you, intending to build a tower, sit not down first, and count the cost, whether he has sufficient to finish it?” to buttress his point that Jesus called on Christians to strategize when undertaking projects.
“At this time of the country when you are begging IMF for “Noko fio” money, you say you are building cathedral, does it make sense?”
“So for now, it doesn’t make sense, if Akufo Addo makes a personal pledge to God that he will build it, it is between him and his God to go and clear all that land and say I am …for me, it doesn’t make sense” Kwaku Sintim-Misa added.
He added that, the story and support would have been different if the country was making money, but he was quick to add that at this time, when people were worried about their pensions, you are going to build a cathedral…for what? He quizzed again in Twi. Is this to make God say, oooh Ghanaians are good, they built a cathedral? He asked.

“The thought is very analogue…when the Finance Minister is talking, and he quotes these things (bible verses), I say Finance Minister, please you are a little analogue in your thoughts. ”
