The Sefwi Asawinso Traditional Council has threatened people who own apartments and have rented them out to individuals who are allegedly LGBTQI+.

The Council is asking landlords to report tenants who they think are engaging in such behavioUr. The council has warned of severe consequences if this does not occur.

The notice was issued by Nana Kyeame Gyesi, chief linguist of the Sefwi Asawinso traditional council, who stated that they would not tolerate such wicked behaviors in the area. According to him, Ghanaians will not welcome LGBTQI+ individuals since their cultural and traditional beliefs disapprove of their actions.

He went on to say that anyone found engaging in such behaviour would be excommunicated from the group.
Additionally, he has issued a warning to the people of the Western North region, saying that anyone caught engaging in homosexual acts will be banished through traditional rituals. It was Nana Kofi Nkrumah’s strong recommendation that his people guard against the dominance of such strange and wicked practices.

“To purify the town, we will carry out certain rituals. A sacrifice has been brought to our community by them. We will not brook such wickedness here. This warning is also going out to the landlords in this area. Please inform us if you have allowed anybody to use your rooms for illegal activities; otherwise, we will take swift and severe action if our investigation reveals the truth,” he said.

Following the arrest of two men in Sefwi Asawinso, Sefwi Wiawso municipality, on suspicion of homosexuality, he issued the warning. After hearing strange noises coming from a fashion designer’s room at Sefwi Asawinso, suspicious homeowners became suspicious and grabbed the two young men.

The Sefwi Asawinso police command is now investigating them. The locals asserted that they broke into one of the bedrooms and found the two young males engaging in sexual activity.

The royal family and the traditional council are in disgrace because of these young guys. “We anticipate their prosecution in court. As the traditional leaders, we shall cleanse the land after their trial. I feel compelled to stress this point and warn landlords: the LGBTQI+ community should not be allowed to rent out their rooms. We will penalize you harshly if we find out if you do it,” they said.
