Africa Education Watch (EduWatch) has called on the Ministry of Education (MoE) to release BECE results before candidates commence the process to select their preferred public Senior High Schools for 2023 school placement.
In a post sighted by AcademicWeek, the Executive Director of EduWatch, Kofi Asare said that the current system where BECE students are made to select schools before the national examination results are released does not help.
MoE asked to release BECE results before school selection
He said if the Basic Education Certificate Examination for School results are released before the selection of Senior High Schools, it would rationalize the demand for ‘Category A’ schools and balance the school placement process.
“If BECE results were released before Senior High School selection, it would rationalize the demand for some schools and create some equilibrium. What do you think?” the Director of the Education Think Tank quizzed in the post.
His comment comes after the Ministry of Education announced final year Junior High School students after ending the 2022 BECE on October 21, will begin the Senior High Schools selection from October 31 to November 18, 2022.
In a statement shared with AcademicWeek, the Education Ministry said it has produced a video explaining the school’s selection guidelines for candidates. The school’s selection video it said will be played on radio and television stations.
“The Ministry of Education (MoE) has produced a video explaining the school’s selection guidelines for candidates. This video will be played on various radio and television networks across the country,” the Ministry of Education stated.
According to the Ministry in charge of Education, the 2022 selection of Senior High Schools guideline video available at freeshs.net will be televised or played to prospective 2022 BECE candidates from October 24, 2022, to October 29.
