The Ghana Education Service has released the New  Guidelines for 2021 School Selection for all 2021 BECE graduates, schools, and parents. These guidelines are to help stakeholders to understand the school selection process and to make informed choices.

The GES as indicated that as part of measures to ensure a smooth placement of qualified BECE candidates for 2021, the Ghana Education Service and Vocational Education and Training Services (GES/TVETS) have put in place the following guidelines for the information of parents/guardians/teachers/candidates and the general public.

The 2021 School Selection guidelines are as follows.

All SHS/SHTS/TVET institutions have been categorized and placed in four categories namely Category A, B, C, and D. Candidates are required to choose their 1st to 5th Choice schools from only category A, B, and C only. For every school a candidate chooses, the preferred accommodation and programme have to be chosen as well.

Candidates can only select one school from Category A. Again candidates can choose only two schools from category B and up to 5 schools from category C.

Candidates are to note that, it is not compulsory to make your first choice from Category A or B. Choose schools based on your academic strength and not taste and preference. Choosing very bog and competitive schools may lead to lost opportunities.

Candidates are required to make their 6th and final choice from category D. These are compulsory day schools. Candidates can also choose their last choice school from the set of schools labeled special schools. These special schools are boarding schools. The category D school a candidate chooses must be one that is very close to his or her residence or catchment area.
