Consider Rastafarian boys in Achimota SHS – Ablakwa to Achimota SHS

Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has joined Ghanaians calling for the admission of the Rastafarian boys in Achimota SHS.

In his argument on the matter, he cited the Children’s Act, Act 560 to guide the decision they make with regard to the students.

The former Minister of Education and North Tongu Member of Parliament appealed to the Achimota SHS while speaking on the floor of Parliament on the matter on Thursday.

According to him, the supreme interest and welfare of the two boys and other students in the minority group need help.

 ‘The two students and all minority students facing blatant discrimination must be admitted immediately in the interest of their supreme welfare as the Children’s Act, Act 560 demands,” Hon Ablakwa told Parliament.

He added that he is not against the rules of the school but those that are discriminatory and backward and the welfare of the Rastafarian boys.

‘Mr. Speaker, I believe the time has now come for this House and the Ministry of Education to set minimum standards and clear parameters consistent with our laws on what constitutes acceptable rules in our schools,” he said while addressing the issue on the floor of parliament.

The information available to this portal is that the Minister of Education and other stakeholders are looking at finding permanent solutions on the issue to ensure students like the Rastafarian boys enjoy their academic rights.
