NPP’s Lawyer Akoto Ampaw Is Dead
Lawyer Anthony Akoto Ampaw Esq, a distinguished Ghanaian legal expert and human rights advocate, is dead. His demise occurred on October 20, 2023, at the University of Ghana Medical Center (UGMC).
Throughout his illustrious career, Akoto Ampaw served as the leader of the legal team responsible for defending President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s victory in the 2020 Presidential elections before the esteemed Supreme Court. He was also a member of the New Patriotic Party.
Respected lawyer Akoto Ampaw has also criticized the Speaker’s position saying ‘…it’s a political bait… so the vast majority of Ghanaians who are opposed to homosexuality will use this as a benchmark for elections.
The President has also commended a group of 18 pro-LGBTQ+ lawyers and academics led by Akoto Ampaw (who represented the President in the 2021 presidential election petition at the Supreme Court) for submitting a memorandum to Parliament critiquing the Bill

Notably, he was expected to assume the role of Special Prosecutor, a significant position, with the President’s approval of the Office of Special Prosecutor Bill.
Popularly known as ‘Che Che’ since his days as a student at the University of Ghana, Mr. Ampaw played a pivotal role as part of the New Patriotic Party’s legal team during the Electoral Petition of 2013. Additionally, he was a valued partner at Akufo-Addo’s law firm, Akufo-Addo, Prempeh & Co.
Lawyer Ampaw leaves behind a lasting legacy in the legal community, where he championed human rights causes and strived for fair justice. He earned his law degree from the University of Ghana in 1973 and completed his Barrister-at-Law (B.L.) at the Ghana School of Law in 1993.

His areas of expertise included Commercial Law, Company Law, Industrial Law, and Litigation, making him a respected figure in the legal field. Akoto Ampaw’s contributions will be remembered and cherished by many.
