The National Teaching Council (NTC) will induct newly qualified teachers this year. The program will be the first of its kind in the teaching profession since the implementation of the new education reform commenced. This is part of efforts to transform the teaching profession and add value and prestige to teachers.
This was contained in a blog post by the outfit sighted by Ghanaeducation.org In the blog it said…
NTC organizes induction program for newly qualified teachers (trained teachers) who successfully passed the Ghana Teacher Licensure Exams to usher them into the teaching profession.
The induction program serves as on-the-job training where the newly qualified teachers are exposed to the nitty-grity of the profession. It is required that NQTs undertake activities determined by the National Teaching Council so that they will be considered fit for the job.
The National Teaching Council in exercising its mandate as per the Education Regulatory Bodies ACT 2020, ACT 1023 in collaboration with the Ministry of Education is leading the course of professionalizing teachers and improving education delivery in Ghana.
The need to professionalize teachers and build a strong teacher workforce is consistent with MDG goal 4 which seeks to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.
The drive for the professionalization of teachers in the education sub-sector must begin from where they are trained.
The NTC is however yet to announce the date it will induct newly qualified teachers (NQTS).
The NTC has however directed teachers to download the induction materials for their use.
