  1. I have been advocating for teaching these girls to take care of themselves. This rule about cutting our hair makes us feel less beautiful and it messes with our self-esteem and confidence! It is promoting timidity and self-doubt! This teacher took advantage of this low self-esteem and started to sleep with girls. How do we even know that it wasn’t rape? Investigations anyone? We Ghanaian children are not nurtured to be confident and open-minded.
This kills our curiosity and does not drive any innovation.

WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME A CHILD IN THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS IN GHANA CAME UP WITH AN INNOVATION?

We need to change this rule of destroying the self-esteem of our young women and empower them to be confident and know their worth.
The reason we have been given that having hair makes you look older doesn’t hold where men (who have bad intentions) are concerned! Also, why should the woman/girl be the one to always be controlled in such situations?
We have to dress properly, learn to cook, talk properly, cut our hair forcibly so that we do not entice men! But is it working?
GHANA EDUCATION SERVICE, I know there are bigger problems like your benefits, working conditions, classrooms, etc. But you are killing our self esteem! Please! Let us have a nationwide discussion on this rule! These young women need their self-esteem protected!
