School Children Sit on Sticks and Blocks to Learn in Ghana, Ghana, the Timber Rich Country:
We are a country rich in timber and an exporter for that matter but; our future leaders in school today continue to sit on the floor, in building blocks, and under trees to learn. It is not reflecting in our schools in the form of furniture.
School furniture continues to be a major problem for many schools that have been neglected by the government.
I may be far from being right based on the lens with which you read. I may be just on another wild goose chase in an attempt to get the leaders of this nation to act and provide School furniture for the school children.
However, I am convinced that Ghana is the Timber Rich Country Where Future Leaders Sit on Sticks and Blocks to Learn.

There are schools in many deprived communities where having a desk is a luxury and not a necessity for learners.
We need to stop classifying some communities and schools as existing in deprived communities.
A school in a deprived community must not be deprived of basic things such as decent classrooms, desks for learners, and all that makes teaching and learning less stressful.
Years back, in the heart of Accra, we carried kitchen stools and tables from home to school on a daily basis without which we will have no decent chairs to sit on and tables to write on.
One would have thought that 30 years down into the present, these easy to deal with bottlenecks would have been flashed out.
However, today in the so-called deprived communities that feed the nation, provide wood for export, learners have to sit on their bare floor, write while lying on their bellies.
Teachers and learners in many places after 64 years of nationhood still learn under trees where lessons are cut short by rainstorms and clouds.
QUESTIONS TIME FOR GHANA!!!
- What kind of leaders do we have in the country and in education?
- Where are we heading as a people?
- How can we give so much to them and we take nothing back but papers in exchange?
- When will we know the actual difference between our resources and their papers?
- What future are we building for the next generation of Ghanaians who enter Classrooms without tables and chairs to learn and no classrooms to be proud of?
- Until when will we learn from our mistakes?

Upon all the immense timber resources of Ghana, this is what their future leaders get in return!!!
Furnish our schools with decent School furniture and prioritize the so-called deprived schools which are in that state as a result of deprivation by the state.
Please don’t get it twisted, we are not trying to promote the negativities of Ghana and the education system, we truly have to reflect on some real issues in the country on education.
