Let’s take a look at the salary of the highest-paid GES teacher in 2024 after the government increased the basic salary of all workers by 23%.

As you already know, teachers and other staff members of GES do not receive the same salary. They are being paid based on their ranks. The higher your rank, the higher your salary. You could have a PHD, but if your rank in GES is low, you will receive a lesser salary.

Following the salary increment of 23% that took place in January, the salary of the highest-paid GES teacher is GH¢10,090.09.  If you are a teacher, will you ever get close to the Highest Paid Teacher In Ghana salary any soon? This salary is usually for the Director General of the Ghana Education Service, who is also regarded as a teacher.

This comes after workers in Ghana witnessed an increment in their basic pay of 23%.

This increment took effect on January 1, 2024. The 23 percent is one of the biggest increments organised labour has secured out of negotiations with the government since 2010, when the government increased the base pay by 20 percent and again by the same margin in 2011.

Since the current administration came to power in 2017, the highest increment has been 30 percent, which was secured in 2023.

The agreement was made on November 14, 2023, between the Government of Ghana, represented by the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations (MELR), and the Ministry of Finance (MoF), and organised labour, comprising workers unions, associations, and institutions within the Public Service of Ghana (hereinafter called labor”) o of the other part.

Both parties have concluded the following negotiations for the 2024 single-spine salary structure: base pay.

1. That the base pay on the single-spine salary structure (SSSS) has been increased by 23% across the board from January 2024 to June 2024.

2. That from July 2024 to December 2024, the base pay would be readjusted to 25%.

Labour advocated for a 45 percent increase in base pay, which would subsequently raise overall salaries.
