Secret GES Recruitment? Unemployed Teachers Accuse Officials as Mega Protest Looms
The Coalition of Unemployed Trained Teachers (CUTT), made up of graduates from the 2023 batch, has shaken the education space with fresh allegations of a “secret recruitment” ongoing within the Ghana Education Service (GES). The group says it has received repeated reports suggesting that some political office holders, including Members of Parliament, District Chief Executives and Municipal Chief Executives, are quietly influencing the posting of new teachers for their own benefit.
In a statement released over the weekend, CUTT described the situation as deeply worrying and a direct attack on the principles of fairness that have guided teacher recruitment for years. According to the group, claims have emerged that certain individuals are allegedly securing appointment letters through political connections or private arrangements. CUTT argues that if these allegations are confirmed, the recruitment process would effectively be compromised, leaving qualified unemployed teachers at a disadvantage.
The coalition says it is gathering evidence from affected individuals and insiders who claim the process is being manipulated behind the scenes. It has also encouraged anyone with credible information to step forward and support the ongoing effort to expose what it describes as a growing injustice. Members say they cannot sit quietly while others allegedly secure postings through secret channels when thousands of trained teachers remain at home.
CUTT has announced its intention to stage what it calls a “mega demonstration” to demand transparency and the immediate opening of an official recruitment window. The protest, according to the group, will involve teachers, parents, guardians and sympathisers who are frustrated by the slow pace of official postings. The group insists that the march will continue at the Jubilee House until authorities address their concerns. A final date for the mass protest is expected to be communicated soon.
Despite the tension, CUTT has assured its members that it remains committed to protecting their rights and ensuring a fair recruitment process for all trained teachers still waiting for employment. The coalition believes public pressure is now the only tool left to compel GES and the Ministry of Education to clarify what is truly happening behind closed doors.
