SHS Students To Receive Tablets On Monday

The government of Ghana has made it clear that all senior high schools (SHS) students in Ghana will receive tablets starting tomorrow, Monday, 25th March, 2024.
Spearheaded by the Centre for National Distance Learning and Open Schooling, led by Executive Director Nana Gyamfi Adwabour, this initiative falls under the Ghana Smart Schools Project.
Designed to enhance educational outcomes, the project aims to furnish all senior high and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions across the nation with teaching and learning management systems, digital learning content, and electronic devices. Adwabour revealed in an interview on JoyNews that all 503 public SHS and TVET institutions will be beneficiaries of this program.
The distribution process will be executed in phases, encompassing 30 schools per phase until every institution is covered. Adwabour emphasized the meticulous planning and stakeholder collaboration required for the successful implementation of such a nationwide endeavor.

Furthermore, it was clarified that the distribution would include students across all levels, from Form 1 to Form 3. Adwabour reassured that the tablets have already arrived in the country and will be dispatched to various district stores managed by the Ghana Education Service (GES) and TVET for onward distribution.
These tablets boast impressive specifications including a four-inch screen, four gigabytes of RAM, a battery life of seven to eight hours, and a solar-based battery pack, ensuring durability and sustainability. Adwabour stressed that these devices will complement traditional textbooks and equip students with digital skills essential for the modern world.
In addition to facilitating access to education, President Akufo-Addo’s vision for this initiative underscores the belief that education is a fundamental human right, as enshrined in Article 25 1(C). Adwabour expressed confidence that this transition to digital learning will not only enrich the educational experience but also enhance Ghana’s competitiveness on the global stage.
